Key Point Academy
Therapists: A Valuable Resource for Troubled Teens
Key Point Academy strongly encourages you to interview therapists in your local area as quickly as you begin considering placement in a treatment program. Unlike most troubled teen boarding schools, we want you and your child to employ a local therapist throughout the treatment process, if possible. Most programs see therapists as an interference to initial placement, and therefore do not encourage their involvement until after residential placement is made.
Therapists can, however, be invaluable, both in helping you to recognize the need for temporary out-of-home placement, and in preparing you and your teen for the return home for long-term success. Although we cannot provide specific recommendations to therapists, we can provide names of therapists with whom we are familiar.
We are so committed to this process that Key Point Academy will pay for the first two months of aftercare therapy (maximum of $500 per month for two months, totalling $1,000), provided you have retained the service of a licensed therapist. Our goal is to help you develop the strongest treatment team possible, employing not only Key Point Academy, but also other professionals and interested parties, all of whom will join with you to help your child.
It's often said that our children need to know we love them. That's true. But we also need to know they love us. Often when teens struggle that connection seems to fade. But with effective, well-planned intervention, solutions that bring families back together can be found. Key Point can be part of that process. However, the same strength and wisdom it takes to employ an organization such as ours can be employed to find a local advocate - a therapist - who can support you and your teen through the entire process.
If available in your area, a good place to meet local therapists who are familiar not only with the residential treatment industry, but who are familiar with Positive Peer Culture and the Strong Model of Interaction and Intervention, is through InsightPros and the Strong Model seminars.
